Welcome to The Alton Maasai Project website!
The Alton Maasai Project aims to directly benefit the women and children, and the wider community, of the Maasai district of Oldanyati in southern Kenya. [see Background]
The project has been set up by Ann and Bill Alton, visitors from the USA, and Rimas Tankile Morris, a Maasai woman who they befriended whilst she was working as a local school teacher, and who now resides in Sheffield in the UK. [see About Us]
The project's main objective is to provide a Learning Centre to be used as a school by the youngest local children [see School Project], but also to be an educational meeting place for a local women's group previously set up by Rimas. [see Women's Project]
When trying to decide on a name for the project, the women of this group suggested 'Alton Maasai Project'. Ann and Bill felt honoured to put their name to it, and hope the project will inspire others to help this small but proud Maasai community. [see Get Involved]
